Eddy Craft BeerCraft Beer and WINE?
by Andrew Schlett

Everybody already knows that the GenuWine Tasting Room provides high-quality, hard-to-find great wines and fabulous food at affordable prices; this is not news to anyone.  The next time you come in, though, you should take a few minutes to check out our craft beer wall as well.  Rather quietly, we have constructed a collection of brews so diverse that any and all beer palates will be well served.  Some are the product of local brew houses, others from nationally-known craft breweries, and a few are imported from places like England and Germany.

Bar manager Eddie Litwin is the architect of this assemblage.  Working closely with distribution reps and paying close attention to the commentary of our tasting guests, he has been proactive in selecting only top-shelf suds to fill the slots on the wall rack.  Many of the old favorites remain but there is usually something different to try each and every week, at varying price points and serving sizes.

Among the more interesting selections recently offered is the exquisite Prearis Grand Cru 2013 Cognac Barrel Ale, aged for 11 months in Remy Martin cognac barrels.  The Scotch Silly Port Barrel Scotch Ale is, obviously, aged in port barrels and rates a very high 95 out of 100 on the beer rating scale.  Two more entries of note include the Green Flash Imperial IPA which combines notes of pine, evergreen, and pineapple with hops to achieve a flavor which defies description but goes down easy; and the rather gimmicky but very tasty Monty Python’s Holy Grail Ale which, according to description, has “more hops than a killer rabbit” and is “tempered over burning witches”.  That alone makes it worth the drinking!

There are many others.  We offer something called Weihenstephaner Fest Bier that comes from a brewery which was founded in the year 1040, some two decades before William the Conqueror invaded England from Normandy.  We have Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier Urbock from Germany which has a smokey, almost barbeque-esqe essence to it.  The Mission Hard Root Beer is winning fans daily with its 7.5% ABV and delicious blend of root beer and real beer.  The list goes on and on; the only real way to capture the magnitude of this beer wall is to stand before it and gaze in awe.

Our draft beer clientele are well served also, as we continue to rotate locally-produced kegs through our oft-flowing taps.

Make your plans to come out to GenuWine soon.  Taste of our vintages.  Dine upon our culinary fare.  Enjoy a tasty craft beer out on our newly-covered outdoor patio.  Listen to the variety of talented musicians who grace our Fuller’s Vintage Guitar Stage.  We offer something for pretty much everybody and we look forward to seeing you soon!
